Uber Driver Fatally Shot by Passenger in Texas

A 60-year-old Uber driver, Tahirou Diallo, was shot and killed early Wednesday morning while working in North Richland Hills, Texas. Authorities say the shooting occurred around 12:01 a.m. on Mickey Street.

Police arrived at the scene to find Diallo dead near an SUV parked in the road. Another man, identified as Kane Roden, was found nearby and appeared to be heavily intoxicated. A firearm was discovered next to him.

Investigators believe Diallo and Roden did not know each other prior to the incident. Diallo was reportedly transporting Roden as a rideshare passenger when the shooting occurred. Authorities are treating the case as an isolated incident and are not seeking additional suspects.

A witness reported seeing a man walk from the passenger’s side of the car to the rear before firing a gun using both hands. She described hearing the gunshot and seeing a flash before fleeing the scene.

Roden is in custody and faces a murder charge. He also has outstanding charges from another jurisdiction, including family violence, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and violating a protection order.

Uber expressed condolences to Diallo’s family and stated it is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Police continue to investigate the incident and have asked anyone with information to contact the North Richland Hills Police Department.
