Man Accused of Murder Allegedly Confesses to Killing Young Man in Freetown Court Hears
A police officer has told the High Court in Freetown that a man standing trial for murder admitted to killing Ibrahim Sorie Kamara during police questioning.
Detective Police Constable Kargbo from the Criminal Investigation Department in Grafton revealed this while giving evidence in the ongoing trial of Abdul Bangura before Justice Mohamed Bawoh at High Court No. 2.
While testifying, the officer explained that on February 3, 2025, both the accused and the victim were taken into police custody. According to him, Ibrahim Sorie Kamara had suffered injuries to his arm which were believed to have been caused by Bangura.
The officer said a medical form was issued to document the injuries and the accused was later detained as investigations continued.
The court also heard that the following morning the accused’s father went to the police station and reported that a confrontation between the two men had resulted in Kamara’s death.
After receiving the report, police launched further investigations. This included a post-mortem examination conducted at Connaught Hospital on February 19, 2025. The medical certificate from the examination was later presented in court as evidence.
The officer further told the court that investigators cautioned and interviewed the accused on February 20, 2025. A progress report on the case was later sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
According to the testimony, police later obtained a voluntary charge statement from the accused on March 11, 2025, which has also been admitted as evidence in court.
During cross-examination, the defense lawyer questioned the witness about the investigation, and the officer confirmed that the accused admitted to the killing during the process.
The prosecution requested more time to call additional witnesses in the case. Justice Bawoh later adjourned the matter to March 17, 2026, when the trial is expected to continue.
