Unidentified Body Left on Street Near Freetown City Council Sparks Concern

An unidentified body has been lying on a street near the Freetown City Council building in central Freetown for several days, raising concern among residents and activists. Youth activist Trevor Young called for urgent action, describing the situation as both a public health issue and a matter of human dignity.

Young first brought attention to the situation through social media, noting that the body was just a block away from the city council building. When he returned later in the day, he was dismayed to find that nothing had changed.

“I truly hoped that by the time I returned, the situation would have been handled with the urgency and dignity it deserves,” he said. “Unfortunately, the body was still lying there, exactly where it was earlier.”

Many people reached out to Young seeking clarity on which authority is responsible for removing bodies found in public spaces. According to information he gathered, this duty falls under the Ministry of Health rather than the city council.

“If the Ministry of Health is responsible, then the question must be asked: why has the body remained here for days?” Young said.

He emphasized the impact on the community, noting how disturbing it is for residents to see a human being left in public view. “No family deserves for their loved one to be left in the street like this, and no community should have to walk past such a scene as if it is normal,” he added.

Young urged the authorities to intervene immediately to remove the body, stating that such delays undermine efforts to portray Freetown as a city progressing toward development.

As of reporting, there has been no public response from the authorities regarding the situation or the delay in addressing it.
