Radio Democracy Demands Apology from Kao Denero, Warns of Legal Action
Radio Democracy 98.1 FM has called out Sierra Leone’s Entertainment Ambassador, Amara Dennis Turay, popularly known as Kao Denero, after he disputed one of their reports concerning his ongoing court case.
The matter started when the station reported that Kao Denero had been granted bail of Le50,000. Shortly after, he released a video on social media denying that claim and insisting the report was false.
The case itself involves a dispute between Kao Denero and fellow artist Frederick Peters, better known as Famous. It is currently before Magistrate Adama Kanday at the Pademba Road Court No. 4, where Kao Denero faces charges of incitement and intimidation. During the most recent hearing, the prosecution informed the court that the artist’s lawyers were exploring an out-of-court settlement with the complainant.
The magistrate also cautioned Kao Denero about making social media posts regarding the case, reminding him that as a public figure he should avoid statements that might influence the ongoing proceedings.
Despite this, Kao Denero’s weekend video accused Radio Democracy of misreporting his bail conditions. The station responded by standing by its coverage, saying its report was based on what was publicly stated in court.
Producer Michael Sambola described the artist’s claims as troubling and stressed that the station has a long record of verifying facts before publishing. He warned that if Kao Denero does not issue a public apology, the station is prepared to take legal action.
Radio Democracy has said it will continue monitoring the court case and updating the public, while maintaining its commitment to accurate and responsible reporting.
