28-Year-Old Businessman Remanded in Custody Over Murder Case
A 28-year-old businessman, Dekalie Conteh, has been ordered to remain in custody as he faces serious charges related to a fatal incident in Freetown.
The case, which was heard on Wednesday, August 6, involves allegations that Conteh was involved in a violent attack that led to the death of a man named Andrew Mansaray. According to court proceedings, the incident occurred earlier this year on February 16 in the Token Grassfield area along Main Peninsula Road.
Testimony revealed that on the day of the event, Conteh allegedly arrived at the scene in a tricycle with a group of individuals. Witnesses say the group caused chaos in the area, damaging property and threatening people with weapons such as cutlasses, knives, and broken bottles.
One of the witnesses, a local businessman named Francis Lebbie, reported that his shop was targeted. Items including a Bluetooth speaker and a cooler were damaged during the incident. Fearing for his safety, he fled and later alerted both the police and community leaders. Not long after, word came that a person had been killed nearby.
During the court session, the prosecution presented Lebbie’s official statement as evidence. The defense requested more time to cross-examine the witness.
Due to the seriousness of the charges, the magistrate declined to grant bail and ordered Conteh to be held at the Male Correctional Centre. The case has been adjourned until August 14 for further hearing.
