New Agri-Tech Centre of Excellence Opens in Masiaka to Empower Young Farmers
A new chapter in Sierra Leone’s agricultural journey began with the launch of the Agri-Tech Centre of Excellence at the Masiaka Youth Farm. Designed to equip young people with modern farming skills, the center aims to boost both youth employment and the country’s food production.
The opening ceremony brought together community leaders, women’s groups, and young people from across the district. Paramount Chief Bomboli attended with his team, underscoring the project’s significance for the region.
The center will serve as a training hub where young farmers can learn advanced techniques in crop production and animal rearing. Facilities include greenhouses, modern irrigation systems, and tools to adapt to changing weather conditions—key steps in making farming more productive and less risky.
Participants will receive hands-on training in growing vegetables, peppers, maize, and rice, as well as in poultry farming. The program is open to all youth, including persons with special needs, ensuring everyone can benefit from the opportunities it provides.
This initiative is part of a broader push to engage young people in agriculture and is backed by strong national support. The first phase of the project is now underway, with the initial group of trainees set to begin soon.
By blending technology, innovation, and practical farming skills, the Agri-Tech Centre of Excellence offers a vision for a future where young people can build sustainable livelihoods, strengthen food security, and contribute to their communities.
