Woman Charged With Manslaughter After Fatal Stabbing of Husband in Freetown
Isata Bindi appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 on Friday, July 19, 2025, following allegations that she fatally stabbed her husband, Mustapha Bangura.
Bindi faces one count of manslaughter related to an incident that reportedly took place on May 13 at their home on Aberdeen Road in Freetown. According to court documents, a domestic altercation between the couple escalated, allegedly leading Bindi to stab her husband with a sharp object. He later died from his injuries.
Prosecutor ASP Ibrahim Mansaray informed the court that he had only recently received the case file and that key witnesses were not yet available. As a result, he requested more time to prepare the case. The magistrate agreed and adjourned the matter to Monday, July 21, for further proceedings.
The accused did not enter a plea, as manslaughter is considered an indictable offence in Sierra Leone, meaning it must be tried in the High Court.
Court records reveal that Bindi and Bangura were legally married and lived together with their two children. They originally came from Bo District and had reportedly been experiencing a strained relationship, marked by frequent arguments and a breakdown in communication before the fatal incident.
Investigations into the full circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
