SLRSA Executive Director Meets with Internal Affairs Minister to Strengthen Road Safety Efforts

The Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), James Baggie Bio, recently met with the Minister of Internal Affairs, retired Assistant Inspector General Morie Lengor, to explore ways to improve road safety and enhance national security.

During the meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mr. Bio highlighted several operational challenges currently facing the Authority. A key concern was the need to prevent stolen vehicles from being registered within the SLRSA system. He stressed the importance of implementing robust vehicle verification and tracking measures as part of a broader strategy to protect public safety.

Another issue raised was the limited capacity of the Road Safety Corps to enforce regulations effectively in certain situations without sufficient support from the police. Mr. Bio called for stronger cooperation between his agency and law enforcement to address these gaps.

In response, Minister Lengor expressed his support for increased collaboration and recognized the role of the SLRSA in tackling vehicle-related crimes. He pledged the Ministry’s commitment to facilitating discussions with stakeholders across the transport and security sectors to foster improved coordination.

The Minister also raised concerns about the dangers posed by container trucks and the poor condition of many vehicles on the roads. He advocated for the integration of modern technology in enforcement and monitoring efforts to boost efficiency and compliance.

The meeting ended with both parties reaffirming their commitment to ongoing engagement. They agreed on the need for continued dialogue and joint initiatives to ensure safer roads and stronger public security throughout the country.
