Sierra Leone to Compete in First-Ever Beach Kabaddi World Cup
Sierra Leone’s Men’s National Kabaddi Team is about to make history. From September 23 to 28, 2025, they’ll be among 18 countries taking part in the very first Beach Kabaddi World Cup.
Joining Kenya, Tanzania, and Burundi, Sierra Leone will be one of only four African nations in the men’s competition, flying the continent’s flag with pride. While 18 men’s teams are set to clash, the women’s division will feature 12 teams. Unfortunately, Sierra Leone won’t be represented in the women’s category this time, as only two African nations made the cut there.
The official tournament draw will take place on August 23, 2025, at Glory Beach Resort, with teams sending their own representatives for the event. Player lists can be updated until August 15, after which changes will only be allowed for medical reasons—and even then, extra fees will apply.
Guided by Coach Sonny Johnson, the Sierra Leone squad is in intense training mode, sharpening their skills for this big moment. This marks the country’s first-ever appearance in a beach Kabaddi competition, making it a huge milestone for the sport back home.
Fans are buzzing with excitement, hoping the team’s dedication will pay off with a strong performance on the global stage—and maybe even inspire a new generation of Kabaddi players in Sierra Leone.
