Sierra Leone Seals Landmark Deal to Open Global Doors for Young Leaders

Sierra Leone has taken a bold step toward empowering its youth, signing a landmark agreement with AFS Intercultural Programs to provide young leaders with new opportunities for global education and cultural exchange.

The Memorandum of Understanding, signed during the closing ceremony of Sierra Leone’s special session at the AFS Youth Assembly, will connect students, educators, and aspiring changemakers to a range of prestigious initiatives—such as the Global STEM Accelerators, Global STEM Educator Program, and international youth leadership gatherings.

The deal is the result of two years of collaboration and marks a personal milestone for Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah, who has had a long-standing relationship with AFS since his early days as a youth advocate. He reflected on the significance of the partnership, calling it a vital step toward nurturing confident, globally minded leaders who can drive positive change both at home and abroad.

Through this partnership, Sierra Leonean youth will gain access to leadership training, cross-cultural learning experiences, and exchange programs designed to build global skills, encourage social entrepreneurship, and inspire civic engagement.

AFS President Daniel Obst hailed the agreement as a major step forward in making life-changing intercultural experiences accessible to more young people. He expressed excitement about working with Sierra Leone to help its next generation develop the networks and expertise needed to tackle today’s global challenges.

This collaboration represents more than just an agreement—it’s the start of a new chapter in Sierra Leone’s vision for an inclusive, connected, and empowered future for its youth.
