Proud Moment: Sierra Leone’s Cadet Graduates from Royal Military Academy Sandhurst
Sierra Leone is celebrating a milestone achievement as Officer Cadet Umaru Mattia has successfully graduated from the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom. His journey marks an inspiring moment of pride for the nation and its armed forces.
Mattia was part of Commissioning Course 243, which trained 238 cadets, including participants from international partner countries. The intensive 44-week program focused on leadership, combat readiness, and decision-making under pressure. It concluded with the Sovereign’s Parade on 8 August 2025, a ceremony that officially commissions cadets as officers.
During training, cadets were exposed to modern military technologies such as drones, unmanned ground vehicles for casualty evacuation, and AI-powered moving targets. The highlight of the course was Exercise Dynamic Victory in Germany, where Mattia and his colleagues faced realistic battlefield scenarios that tested their leadership and resilience.
Representing Sierra Leone on this international stage, Mattia’s graduation reflects both his personal commitment and the country’s growing participation in global defense training. With his commissioning complete, he now joins the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) as a fully trained officer, ready to contribute his skills to national security and international cooperation.
This achievement not only strengthens Sierra Leone’s military capacity but also inspires the next generation of young citizens to pursue excellence and service.
