President Bio Arrives in New York for UN General Assembly
Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has arrived in New York to take part in the High-Level Week of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The visit marks an important moment as world leaders gather to discuss global challenges, strengthen partnerships, and chart new paths for international cooperation.
Speaking on his arrival, President Bio said he was eager to engage in meaningful discussions, especially as this year’s assembly coincides with three major anniversaries: 80 years of the United Nations, 50 years of ECOWAS, and 20 years since the Ezulwini and Sirte declarations—key milestones in Africa’s push for unity and stronger representation on the global stage.
The UNGA High-Level Week is one of the most significant diplomatic gatherings of the year, providing a platform for leaders to address pressing global issues. For Sierra Leone, the event offers an opportunity to highlight priorities for national development and regional stability while building stronger ties with international partners.
President Bio’s meetings are expected to focus on Sierra Leone’s role in advancing peace, security, and sustainable growth, as well as strengthening collaboration across West Africa.
