Kamarainba Questions President Bio’s Frequent Foreign Trips

Opposition politician Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray has raised concern over President Julius Maada Bio’s frequent foreign travels, pointing out that the head of state has already embarked on 25 international trips in 2025. The latest was a visit to the United Kingdom on Wednesday, reportedly using a chartered private jet funded by the state.

Kamarainba argued that while citizens are struggling with rising food prices, low wages, and limited access to basic services, the government continues to spend heavily on private jet flights for official journeys. He questioned both the frequency and the cost of these trips.

Although the First Lady described the UK visit as part of the president’s official diplomatic engagements, Kamarainba emphasized that his concern is less about the destination and more about the burden on public resources.

Private jet flights typically come with significant expenses, including fuel, crew, landing fees, and maintenance. However, the government has not released details of how much has been spent so far this year.

While some of the president’s travels have been linked to global summits on sustainable energy, youth empowerment, and security, the reliance on private jets has fueled public debate, especially on social media, where many citizens express frustration over government spending during ongoing economic hardship.

So far, State House has not provided a breakdown of costs or directly addressed the growing concerns.
