Human Rights Commission Partners with ECOWAS to Improve Access to Justice

On 19 November 2025, the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone welcomed a delegation from ECOWAS, led by Sabetta Chansa, Technical Advisor for Security Sector Reform Governance. The visit aimed to explore collaboration on promoting access to justice across ECOWAS member states.

The delegation shared details about an ECOWAS project focused on enhancing justice access and strengthening security governance. Mrs. Patricia Narsu Ndanema, Chairperson of the Commission, highlighted HRCSL’s ongoing work to promote peace and justice throughout Sierra Leone.

Sabetta Chansa emphasized that the Commission’s involvement is essential, noting that while Parliament and the Office of National Security are part of the project, HRCSL’s powers and expertise in justice issues are crucial.

HRCSL was also invited to take part in an upcoming symposium in Abuja, themed Rule of Law, Human Security, and Accountability, with the date to be announced. During the visit, Executive Secretary Joseph Kamara and his deputy Frederick Kamara provided a detailed overview of the Commission’s structure and operations.
