Civil Rights Leader Accuses Bio Administration of Falling Short on Public Expectations

Civil rights activist Thomas Moore Conteh, Executive Director of the Citizens Advocacy Network (CAN), has strongly criticized President Julius Maada Bio’s administration, saying it has failed to deliver on the hopes Sierra Leoneans had when they voted for change seven years ago.

In a recent interview, Moore argued that divisions within the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) are undermining national progress and discouraging investor confidence. He said the internal rifts have created instability that makes it difficult for government to focus on development and service delivery.

According to him, the public’s trust in the administration has fallen sharply, with many people feeling disappointed by the lack of visible improvements in their daily lives. He stressed that a divided ruling party sends the wrong message to both citizens and international partners, painting an image of weak leadership and confusion at the top.

Moore further explained that investors typically seek political stability before committing funds to long-term projects. The current state of open disagreements within the SLPP, he said, signals uncertainty and makes it harder for Sierra Leone to attract meaningful investment.

His comments come at a time when the country continues to grapple with high inflation, widespread youth unemployment, and limited access to essential services. Citizens have also been voicing concerns about governance, transparency, and accountability.

Moore concluded that a united government stands a far better chance of meeting national goals. Without that unity, he warned, both citizens and economic partners risk losing confidence in the administration’s ability to deliver.

The SLPP has not yet responded to his remarks.
