Benevolent Islamic Secondary School Alumni Demand Justice After Devastating Arson Attack
The Benevolent Old Students Association (BenoSA) has condemned in the strongest terms the recent arson attack on their alma mater, Benevolent Islamic Secondary School in Makeni. The incident, which occurred on August 7, left severe damage to the school and has shaken the entire community.
In a public statement, the alumni described the attack as a direct threat to the safety of students, staff, and the institution’s property. They called for an immediate and transparent investigation to identify those responsible and ensure they face justice.
“This act of destruction has wounded not just the school’s buildings, but the hearts of everyone who has passed through its halls,” the statement read. “We urge the authorities to uncover the truth and bring the perpetrators to account.”
BenoSA also appealed to pupils, staff, community members, and law enforcement to work together in the investigation. They stressed that unity in the face of adversity is vital for the healing and rebuilding process.
Despite the setback, the association reaffirmed its commitment to the school’s mission of quality education and moral development. “Our dedication to this institution remains unshaken. We will rebuild, we will heal, and we will emerge stronger,” they vowed.
Founded in 1979 by a pioneering group of Muslim women, the school has earned a reputation for academic integrity, moral discipline, and its zero-tolerance stance against examination malpractice. Over the years, it has produced graduates who have gone on to contribute positively to Sierra Leone and beyond.
The attack has sparked widespread concern and calls for swift justice. For the alumni, this is not just about repairing buildings—it is about preserving a legacy of learning, character, and hope for future generations.
