Longer-term rainfall deficits, lasting at least 8 weeks, result in drought in southern South Sudan. 3) Below-average rainfall since the beginning of the rainfall season has led to negative SPI values and abnormal dryness in dryness in the southern parts of Mali, Guinea, and Sierra Leone, and much of Liberia. 4) Observed and forecasted above-average rainfall is likely to lead to flooding along West Africa’s Gulf of Guinea coast, including southern Guinea, southern Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, and Nigeria, and southwestern Cameroon. 5) Forecasted much above-average temperatures greater than 35°C will lead to abnormal heat in parts of Western Sahara, western Mauritania, central Chad, western and eastern parts of Sudan, northeastern DR Congo, Uganda, western Kenya, southeastern South Sudan, northern Eritrea, and Ethiopia’s western, northern, and eastern regions during the outlook period. 6) Heavy rain last week, continuing into this week, is causing high runoff and a threat of flash floods in parts of western Ethiopia.
